Poop

Quite the catchy blog title, huh? Well, if you do not enjoy reading about poop, you might as well stop reading. Or just skip to the cute pictures. If you DO enjoy reading about poop... then this is the post for you!

Those of you with children will find it surprising that Jeremiah, at almost 6 weeks old, has never had a "blow out" (you know... where the poop goes ALL the way up his back!) OR used his "sprinkler" to shower us during diaper changing time. UNTIL TODAY. That's right, folks. I knew Jeremiah was poopy when I went to change him, but I was surprised at the amount of poop awaiting me (since it's never happened before!). WOW. So anyway, I found that it is physically impossible to remove a poopy onesie without making the entire baby poopy in the process (any suggestions here?). So Jeremiah had poop covering his back and bottom, and I even somehow managed to get it on his arms (I'm talented, I know). So once the poopy jammies were removed, there I was with a naked baby needing to be cleaned up. Wipes were not going to do it, so I grabbed the poopy baby (making myself poopy in the process) and we went to get a warm washcloth. When we returned to the changing table, I wanted to lay him on his tummy so I could clean him up, but I didn't want him to pee all over my lovely new changing table cover (right, yes, I know... that's what it's for. Still. I'm anal like that). So I grabbed a towel, and JUST as I was laying it down on the changing table, the sprinkler started going. And going. And going. All over the towel AND the lovely new changing table cover AND the clothes I had gotten out for Jeremiah to wear today, etc, etc, etc. Yes, I did know that I was playing with fire, leaving the sprinkler uncovered or so long... but since it never happened before, I assumed that Jeremiah was just more mature than those other baby boys. Guess not. Oh, and I am pretty sure that Jeremiah was smiling this whole time.

Look at him! He's not even sorry about what he put his mommy through! Good thing he's cute. Oh, and sidenote here: I have a Macbook from school, and I have never been all that fond of it (being more of a PC person). However, I used the "retouching" tool in iPhoto to blur Jeremiah's little boy part. Cool, huh? :)

As I mentioned above, Jeremiah has started smiling! He started out being pretty stingy with his smiles (only smiling at the lamp, window, or ceiling fan), but he has now realized that mom and dad are pretty funny. So he has started smiling at us, too!

Here he is at the end of a smile. And no, this particular smile was not directed at me. :( It was directed at the picture of the truck hanging above the changing table. Darn truck.

Jeremiah loves laying on his back and looking up at his mobile. He stares quite intently at the elephants. Sometimes he decides to talk to them... but usually he just stares them down.

It's hard to believe that Jeremiah will be 6 weeks old tomorrow!!! He is going to celebrate by going to 1st grade! Well, not really. But we are going to go to my school tomorrow so that my students can see this baby that they have watched grow all year long. I am crossing my fingers that none of the dear 6-year-olds asks how exactly the baby came out of my tummy. My answer will probably be, "Ask you mom." Jeremiah is also having his first road trip this weekend-- we are heading to Sioux City for Easter! Jeremiah will finally be able to meet his cousins Kyan and Kobe, who are very eager to meet him! The drive is about 3 hours... so I am hoping that I can feed him before we leave, he'll sleep the whole drive, and then wake up to be fed when we get there. Yes, I have high hopes. We'll see how it goes!

We wish everyone a blessed Easter!

The cutest Easter bunny ever! :)

4 Weeks Old!

I can hardly believe that Jeremiah has been here for 4 weeks already. Time certainly flies when you're having fun! And when you sleep in 2 hour blocks, and don't go to work, and therefore have no idea what day it is! I can't believe how big Jeremiah has gotten in the past month-- last weigh in (yesterday) he was 11 lbs 1 oz! The boy likes to eat, that's for sure. We think that Jeremiah's locks of blond hair are just getting thicker, and his mullet (which he was born with) is getting longer. Yikes! I am SO tempted to snip off the mullet part.... but then I think that the look (business in the front, party in the back!) might actually suit Jeremiah, so we'll leave it for awhile.

Hopefully in the picture you can see the extent of the mullet. I should have known that only Adam's son would come out with a mullet (back in the day, Adam sported a mullet... and also a rat tail... these things I found out AFTER I married him) and sideburns-- I'm just glad he didn't come out with a goatee! :)

Now that Jeremiah is a mature 4 weeks old, he is really starting to love bath time!

Okay, "love" might be a bit strong. He is starting to tolerate bath time. But, hey, that's progress!

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day (sunny and 65 degrees!), so Jeremiah, Molly, and I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. It was a huge success!

I figured that we better get out and enjoy the weather now, since they are forecasting 36 degrees and snow on Saturday. :( Spring sure was nice while it lasted!

Jeremiah is starting to suffer withdrawl from being spoiled. Thankfully next week he can get his fix-- hopefully Grandma Wissink and Great-Grandma Doorenbos will be coming down for a day, AND then Grandma and Grandpa Wiers are coming next weekend! I know that they will ALL be shocked at how big Jeremiah is now!

Spring is here... maybe

Well, the weather has finally warmed up here in Iowa! Woohoooo! Last week we were above 40 degrees all week, and most of our snow is gone (which honestly is pretty remarkable, since we had some HUGE drifts around here). Next week we are supposed to reach almost 60 degrees and the sun will be shining! Last week we had mostly rain, fog, and dreariness. Well, I guess that's enough about the weather (I am starting to sound like my dad!). But, since the weather warmed up a bit, we ventured out for our first walk around the neigborhood. We bundled Jeremiah up, of course (Look Grandma Wiers! He still has plenty of room in that outfit! And Grandpa Wiers, he doesn't look the least bit embarrassed about the ears, does he?):

Jeremiah screamed when we put him in his carseat (however, I think that has less to do with the seat and more to do with the hat-- not a huge fan of hats). But he quickly settled down and enjoyed the ride. I am looking forward to getting him out in the stroller again often next week! Also, FYI I celebrated Jeremiah's 3 week bithday by venturing out by myself with him. We went to the post office, the card and party outlet store, and Starbucks all within 30 minutes. It went pretty well! He cried a few times, but also spent time looking out the window and pondering life.

We are a little tired over here-- Jeremiah likes to eat every 3 hours pretty much like clockwork. I am finding that it's not THAT fun to sleep in 2 hour blocks, but since Jeremiah is so darn cute, we'll keep at it. Here's a picture of the boys and Molly catching some zzzzz's in the afternoon:

Jeremiah spends lots of time in the morning being awake and happy (at least I think he's happy.... haven't seen a smile yet to confirm the happiness). And that's when he tries to do most of his talking. Later on in the afternoon he becomes the strong, silent type (and he sleeps a lot). I uploaded a video to youtube and I'll add the link so you can see wide awake Jeremiah (I am still struggling with how to get the video to upload on the blog... any helpful ideas out there???). Hopefully the link works (but I won't hold my breath... I'm not so good on the old 'puter).

If you can't click on the link, then I think maybe you can copy and paste it into your browser to view the video.... right?

Auntie Abby's Visit

Auntie Abby came for a visit this weekend! She met Jeremiah and proceeded to thoroughly spoil him rotten. As soon as Abby arrived, she found a spot on the couch and spent some quality time getting to know Jeremiah and getting reacquainted with Molly. This picture shows Abby's idea of heaven-- a sleeping baby in her arms and a cute puppy on her lap. I am sure that Abby will be back for visits often because of these 2 cuties!

Abby decided that it would be funny to give Jeremiah a new hair-do-- she parted his hair to look JUST like his Grandpa Wiers! Those of you who know my dad..... do you see a resemblance?

We ventured out to a Mexican restaurant for dinner on Saturday night. Jeremiah was bored with the whole evening. Sooooo.....

We decided to liven things up by giving Jeremiah his first bath in the baby tub! He REALLY hated getting "sponge baths" when his cord was still attached. For some reason, we thought maybe he'd enjoy being in the tub, once his cord fell off. We even got a cute little duckie bath cover thing (from Grandma Wiers!) to lay over him to keep him warm. He absolutely loved it! Kind of.

However, after he was dried off and dressed in his cozy duckie jammies, he realized that life was not so bad after all.

Abby came to church with us this morning. We dressed Jeremiah in the outfit that Auntie Abby gave to him. He liked it SO much that he wore it ALL day long (which is pretty good, considering this child pees through his clothes once or twice daily).

Abby likes to buy gifts that proclaim how great she is, so you can see what this little outfit says. Jeremiah really DOES think that his Auntie Abby rocks, however, he had just heard the news that she was leaving, so he was a bit upset about that.

Thanks for visiting us, Abby! If the crazy, hectic city life ever gets to be too much, you can always come out to Iowa to relax! :)

2 Weeks Old!

Yesterday Jeremiah was 2 weeks old! It is so hard to believe that it was 2 weeks ago that he came into this world! Seems like SO long ago, yet not very long ago at all-- know what I mean? On a sidenote.... I wonder how many total hours of sleep we have gotten in the past 2 weeks. Hmmmm.

Anyway, we brought Jeremiah in for his 2 week check-up at the doctor's office yesterday. He is a whopping 9 lbs 5 oz and he has also grown 1/4 of an inch taller. He's in the 75th percentile for both height and weight-- not bad! He has surpassed his birthweight by 1 lb and 2 oz, so we must be doing something right! :) Here's a picture of him on the table at the doctor's office.... he's not much of a fan of being naked, but he did surprisingly well with the doctor. I am guessing it is because they keep those little examining rooms at a toasty 110 degrees. We ventured out to church last Sunday, and also to Panera with Grandma and Grandpa Wiers (Panera WILL become a favorite of Jeremiah's-- I'm sure of it!). Jeremiah did great at both places-- he was wide awake, listening intently during the sermon at church, and then he slept right through lunch at Panera (the best part, if you ask me!). Here's a picture of our happy little family on Sunday after church (minus Molly... she was there, just not in the pic). Jeremiah is just getting so big! He's becoming more aware of what is around him and he is staying awake more and more during the day. Yesterday he tried out his bouncey seat for the first time (I had been a little hesitant to try it, just because it gives Molly free access to lick Jeremiah all over). But I think Jeremiah liked the bouncey seat-- see for yourself! I think that's about it from the Wissink house for now. The temperature here this weekend is supposed to hit 50 degrees (woohoo!). We might have to break in the new stroller with a short walk around the block! We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Auntie Abby-- Jeremiah and Molly are ready to be spoiled! :) I have a video of Jeremiah from yesterday, but can't seem to get it to upload. I think the file might be too big? I'll try to have my tech support (Adam) help me get it uploaded soon. Since I don't have the video, I'll leave you with a cute picture from bath time a few days ago.
