The week of June 7-12 we enjoyed Wiers family vacation on a gorgeous lake (the house was on Pistakee Bay, I think?) in McHenry, IL. We were so blessed to be able to use the lake house of a great friend of Abby and Neil's. It was so wonderful, and was able to fit our whole fam just perfectly!
We drove up on Sunday the 7th and we all arrived in the late afternoon (except Ben, he came Monday). Jeremiah, Josie, and Evan were so happy to see each other again, and they had so much fun together!! Everyone was also excited to meet and/or see Hope!

Checking out the little beach area after we all arrived.
Aunt Abby was the most popular book reader and game player of the week!

On Monday, we had awesome weather, and I believe that the kids were in their bathing suits and by the lake by 9:00 am. :)

This little bathing beauty loved the sand and water, too!

The highlight, by far, for Jeremiah was riding on the jet ski!

I have to agree that it was fun!

In the afternoon we headed inside for some naps for some, "rest" for others.

Girl cousins!

On Tuesday, we yet again had awesome weather! Neil took us out on his friend's pontoon boat. We stopped to eat a picnic lunch on the boat, and some people braved the water for a swim!

Both J and H went in the water with Daddy!

On Wednesday, some of us decided to head out for a little hike at a state park. The kids had no fun at all, and pretty much complained 75% of the time. (It was pretty hot!)

When our 2 mile hike was FINALLY over, we headed back and the kids went straight for the lake!

Oh, and Hope decided to learn to crawl, too!

On Thursday, we had a special activity planned. For my Dad's 70th birthday in April, we bought tickets to do a tour of Wrigley Field!

It was very cool! We learned a lot of history of Wrigley Field and the Cubs, and also got to go behind the scenes!

J and J in the press box!

On the field!

The whole fam (crappy quality of the pic- it's a picture of a picture!)

After the tour, we went to Abby and Neil's new place in Logan Square (lots of changes in that neighborhood since I lived there!!!), and then we walked to a restaurant for lunch. When we left to walk back to our cars, we got caught in pouring rain! Again. This seems to be a yearly thing for my family!

That night (our last night at the lake house!) we had a bonfire and s'mores!

Ah, there they are!

A s'mores break :)

We took a break to get a nice grandparents/grandkids pic!

Saying good bye to Aunt Abby and Uncle Neil!

We headed to a hotel with my parents and Matt & Cheryl and their kids for Friday night. Matt and Cheryl had an early morning flight the next day, so we had to say good bye before the kids went to bed.

Saturday we had breakfast at the hotel with my parents and then went our separate ways. We surprised J with a little stop in New Buffalo at the railroad museum. It was small, and we were the only ones there. :) So it was perfect for a little stop!
J got to play train conductor

And then we finally made it back to Holland. So sad to have vacation over with!
BUT. That's not all! We were home from Saturday afternoon until Tuesday morning. Then Adam took off for Sioux City for work meetings, and I decided to road trip with the kids to my parents house in WI. (Why yes, it would have been a heck of a lot easier for us to head right to WI from IL, but we could not figure out how to get Adam back to MI by himself NOR did we want to pay to board Molly for 2 whole weeks. So this is how it worked!) I was a little nervous about driving the 4-5 hours to WI with the kids by myself, but overall, they both did awesome. We only really had one rough patch, when J had to go potty, we were stuck in traffic, a truck driver was making faces at Molly in the passenger seat which made Molly bark, which startled Hope, which made her cry. But we got through it, and otherwise it was smooth sailing! :)
On Wednesday, we took J and H to the Wirth Park pool, and J loved it!

He really liked the sand/water area, too!

This little lady loved the 0-depth entry part of the pool with the fountains.

She REALLY wanted to crawl in the water, but the cement was rough and it hurt her knees! So she did a lot of this:

On Thursday we went to see a Lego display at Mayfair Mall. It was a traveling exhibit of all different historical buildings built out of Legos! It was pretty impressive!

J and the Capitol Building

And there was a Lego play area, too- J's favorite part!

J also had fun that afternoon running in Grandpa's sprinkler!

We had a really nice, relaxing time (much more relaxing than if I'd stayed home with the kids by myself while Adam was gone). Friday morning we got up and I basically packed up and hit the road. The trip home went even more smoothly, even with some construction traffic near Michigan City (annoying! But Hope still fell asleep, maybe rocked to sleep by the stop, go, stop, go.... And she stayed asleep until we were almost home). We arrived home just a bit after Adam did. I kinda wish I could do that every time Adam has to go out of town- it was so nice!
We are looking forward to more summer fun- we have yet to hit the beach this year! I can't believe June is almost over, though- summer is flying by too quickly, as always!
