So I've already covered the first half of our vacation in Grand Haven, MI with the Wiers fam. Now, for the second half:
Wednesday (July 14) just so happened to be the 3rd anniversary of our wedding day! We decided to spend the day in Grand Rapids. We went to Calvin College to shop at the bookstore and to see the new sports arena and fieldhouse.
So, Jeremiah's not a Knights fan quite yet, but he will be! I showed him the new basketball arena, where he will one day play ball! :) Adam is very against this idea, since Calvin has no football team, but if Jeremiah gets the Wiers height, I think he'll need to be a Calvin basketball player! He seems to like the new facilities:
We even had lunch at Johnny's! Yum! Not really... I didn't like the food when I was in college, and nothing much has changed.
Since it was our anniversary and we had grandparents around who were eager to babysit, Adam and I went out for dinner at Snug Harbor.
Then, later in the evening we went on a double date with Matt and Cheryl to see the "magical" Musical Fountain on the waterfront. Let's just say that it was a lot more impressive when we were kids!
Thursday we went to Dutch Village in Holland. Lots of photo ops there for our little Dutch babies:
Who doesn't love a good klompen?
My little Dutch boy:
Whose kid is this?
Josie and Jeremiah also had their first carousel rides!
We like being Dutch.
Thursday evening we hung out at our house and played a few rounds of Bags. The dominant team was Matt and Abby. Cheryl and I put up a good fight, though, and with Cheryl's awesome form, it's a wonder we did not come through with a victory!
Friday we rented bikes and did some riding around Grand Haven! Matt pulled Jeremiah and Josie in a Burley behind his bike. Josie was a big fan, Jeremiah not so much:
We had sandwiches from Lucy's for lunch, and then some of us went out for a LOOONG bike ride (longer than we anticipated!) around Spring Lake.
Later in the afternoon we hit the beach at Diekema's:
The long stairway up to the Diekema's house. I haven't counted, but I'm pretty sure there are a million stairs (not fun after our extra long bike ride):
Jeremiah was a little afraid of the water this time-- it was really windy and the waves were really big (almost reminded me of waves on the beach in SoCal!). So he chilled on the blanket in the shade:
Then we went to the legendary Fricano's for dinner with some of our extended family.
Here's Jeremiah with Auntie Abby and cousin Maddie:
We spent more time with family back at the Diekema's house (and we had ice cream cake for cousin Myah's birthday!):
Jeremiah and my cousin Mark:
Jeremiah with the birthday girl:
What a beautiful place-- we did not want to leave!
We had so much fun with our family and relatives. It was a wonderful week that went by way too quickly!
"If you think I'm cute, you should see my Aunt" onesies with Auntie Abby.
Piece onesies with Uncle Ben.
Josie-- "100% loved by Grandma" and Jeremiah-- "Grandpa's Sidekick."
