A Whirlwind Weekend

This past weekend we were able to take Jeremiah on his first road trip to Milwaukee and Chicago! We crammed LOTS of driving and seeing people into 3 short days! I'll let the pictures summarize our weekend:

We left Ankeny about 5 pm on Thursday evening and arrived at my parents' house in Brookfield at about midnight. The trip took a little bit longer with Jeremiah than it used to when it was just the 2 of us! But that's okay. Friday morning we got up bright and early so that we could see Uncle Lew and Aunt JoAnne before they left for Michigan. They were glad to finally meet Jeremiah in person!

It was pretty early, and kind of chilly out, so that is why Jeremiah is still in his jammies, by the way. He was very happy to meet Aunt JoAnne!

And he was pretty amused by Uncle Lew, as well. After we left their house, we headed over to Brookfield Christian School to see Grandpa Wiers. He walked Jeremiah all around the school, introducing him to all the teachers and students (he might be just a bit proud of his grandson)! Of course, Jeremiah had to visit the principal's office, too.

Looks like we might have a future Christian school principal on our hands!!!

During the afternoon, Daddy and Jeremiah stayed at home while Mommy and Grandma Wiers shopped around at some baby stores and consignment shops. We made a good purchase-- a Baby Bjorn at Once Upon a Child for $35!!! So once we got home, we had to try it out:

Jeremiah really likes riding in it, and we have used it often since we bought it! Definitely a good purchase!

That evening, we headed out to Bayshore Mall. We enjoyed eating Potbelly's outside on the patio...

...and the doing some shopping at Trader Joe's! Oh, how I love the chocolate covered peanut-butter pretzels! And of course we found a few more goodies there, too. Jeremiah was not too interested, though.
Then, when we got back to grandma and grandpa's house, it was time for a bath in the sink!
So that was Friday. Saturday we were up bright and early again, headed to this wonderful city:

It's my kind of town-- Chicago! The purpose of our whole trip was to go to the graduation at Chicago West Side Christian School. My very first class of 1st graders just graduated from 8th grade! And I was even asked to give a 2 minute speech about the class. It was so much fun to see all my old kids-- they are all grown up now! And I also got to see my wonderful former co-workers, too. It was just so much fun to be back! And, of course, I neglected to take ANY pictures at the graduation! :( Way to go, me.

After the graduation, we went over to Uncle Roger and Aunt Sheryl's house for lunch. Uncle Rog and Aunt Sheryl are very special to me-- I lived with them for about 3 months when I first got my job in Chicago! They were very eager to meet Jeremiah, too! And Jeremiah also got to meet Uncle Ben, Nate, Anna, and Will & Charlie. Oh, and Auntie Abby was there, too!

Anna read lots of books to Auntie Abby and Jeremiah!

Jeremiah with Uncle Ben!

It turned out to be a pleasant day, so we enjoyed hanging out on the porch and in the backyard. We played Ladder Golf (or whatever you call that game) and just enjoyed being outside!

Wow, look how long Abby's arms are! :)

Jeremiah lounged on a blanket in the shade, while Grandpa Wiers entertained him. We changed Jeremiah into his Piece onesie, in preparation for our next stop! For dinner we went to Piece, to see Uncle Ben again and try out the pizza there. It was really good! We met up with my cousin Karen and her boyfriend Juan at Piece, which was SO nice. Karen is very special to me, too! We moved to Chicago around the same time and lived about a block away from each other that first year (before I moved... and then moved again.... and then moved again). We used to get together every week to have dinner and vent about our jobs. :)

Karen and Jeremiah. Jeremiah was a little overwhelmed by all the people and the noise (he's never really been to a bar before)! He actually did a lot of this...

watching the incredibly huge TV's!!!

The pizzas were also incredibly huge, and very good!

Thanks, dad, for making sure the parmesan cheese shaker got in the picture, too.

And even though it was SUPER loud in there, Jeremiah did this:

It was quite a long, busy day, and Jeremiah was just a champ. He really was great for the entire weekend!

Sunday we went to church with Grandma and Grandpa Wiers (there were lots of people there who wanted to see Jeremiah!), then had lunch at Noodles & Co. The perfect restaurant for me, since I LOVE noodles! I had the mac & cheese, by the way-- shocking, I know! :) Then we loaded up the car and headed back to Iowa. Jeremiah was such a trooper through it all! We are truly blessed to have such a good baby!!! I'm so thankful that we were able to make this trip and see so many special people!

So now it's summer vacation, and Jeremiah, Molly, and I are enjoying spending our days together. :)

  1. Josie is a bit jealous that she hasn't had the chance to meet all those relatives. Hopefully this summer!
